After more than thirty-five years, the Certified Moving Consultant (CMC) credential has come to represent a fundamental competency and adherence to ethical conduct of the sales force for the Household Goods Moving & Storage Industry. Consumers can be confident they are dealing with a knowledgeable sales consultant who is committed to providing excellent and fair service when they see the CMC logo.

The Program:

The Certified Moving Consultant program is specifically designed for sales personnel in the Household Goods Moving Industry.  Upon successfully completing the certification program and passing the examination, the Certified Moving Consultant receives a certification card and a certificate of completion to display in his or her office. CMCs also have the ability to distribute Certified Moving Consultant brochures to customers and his or her name is added to the www.moving.org web site where consumers can quickly verify the qualifications of the sales consultant they are about to hire.  CMCs pay a $125 annual renewal fee to maintain CMC status and receive complementary copies of Direction magazine AMSA’s e-newsletter, AMSA Today.  Re-certification is based on learning credits achieved.  A minimum of eight hours of learning credits must be earned within each year. The learning credits may be earned at all AMSA events, most van line, state association and business association events.

The Process:

Download the application here.The completed application should be mailed to AMSA, along with the $100.00 application fee.  This fee covers the application process, the manual, the testing, and the initial listing on the web site.  Applicants have six months from the time they receive the study manual to take the Certified Moving Consultant examination exam.  Applicants who pass the exam are sent Certified Moving Consultant credentials. The Manual:

The certification manual currently has nine sections covering a variety of topics each sales consultant must be familiar with in order to provide competent sales and marketing services to the public. The sections are as follows:

The Testing Process:

The test must be taken within six months of receiving the manual.  The testing is based solely on the information provided in the manual.  The test must be proctored by a current CMC and is taken within a one-hour time frame.  AMSA will assist in finding proctors when an applicant is ready to take the test.
