AMSA Honors Moving and Storage Industry's Safest Truck and Van Fleets

January 22, 2015

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) announces the 2014 AMSA Fleet Safety Awards honoring the nation’s safest moving and storage company truck and van fleets. These annual awards recognize overall safety, improvement in safety, and creativity and leadership in safety program design.

Mileage Awards are based on annual miles traveled. They are presented to the interstate carrier in each mileage category that has the best weighted combination of the lowest U.S. Department of Transportation recordable accident rate per million miles of vehicle operation, and the lowest vehicle and driver out-of-service rate. An award is also presented to a single intrastate carrier that best meets the same criteria.

The 2014 winners are:

  • Under 5 Million Miles: American Van Lines of Elk Grove Village, Ill.
  • 5-20 Million Miles: New World Van Lines of Chicago
  • 20-50 Million Miles: Graebel Van Lines of Aurora, Colo.
  • Over 50 Million Miles: Allied Van Lines of Fort Wayne, Ind.
  • Intrastate Fleet Safety Award: ABC Fry-Wagner of Lenexa, Kansas

The Safety Initiative Award recognizes a carrier that has launched a special program resulting in significant improvement to overall safety. The 2014 winner is Graebel Van Lines of Aurora, Colo., honored for several new initiatives, including more stringent log auditing, better driver communication, and increased use of monitoring technology. The Safety Improvement Award recognizes a carrier’s successful efforts to reduce the incidence of accidents. The 2014 winner is JK Moving Services of Sterling, Va.

“AMSA salutes these outstanding companies for their commitment to safe vehicle practices,” said AMSA Acting President & CEO Scott Michael. “They have demonstrated the highest level of dedication to safety for their customers and themselves during the past year. Their safety records serve as a model of success in the moving and storage industry.”

Each year AMSA recognizes the industry’s best performing and highest achieving individuals and companies in several categories. The 2014 industry awards will be presented during AMSA’s 96th Annual Education Conference & Expo in Orlando, February 8-11, 2015.
