AMSA Honors Moving and Storage Industry's Top Truck and Van Drivers

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) announces the 2014 AMSA Super Van Operator Awards honoring the nation’s safest moving and storage company truck and van drivers. These annual awards recognize drivers and owner-operators who provide the best in safe, reliable and customer-oriented household goods truck transportation.
Judging criteria include: miles driven; preventable or non-preventable accidents; lifetime driving record; time out of service for any “hours of service” or equipment violations; financial responsibility; community involvement; customer service; driving awards; and outside interests and activities.
The 2014 winners are:
Lifetime Achievement: Roy Lee Richards of Lancaster, Calif. Richards began his career in 1977 with the past 35 years at Farley Brothers of Lancaster, an Allied Van Lines Agent, which he purchased in 1984. He has driven more than 1.7 million miles in a commercial motor vehicle in his lifetime while not recording a single accident or moving violation. Richards has won numerous industry awards, including 35-Year Safe Driving Award 2014 and Allied Master Mover 2008-2014, and ranks in the Top 5% of Allied Van Lines fleet customer surveys. He regularly gives back to the community, including the organization of a relief effort following Hurricane Katrina.
Household Goods: Robert Hirchak, Jr. of Schererville, Ind. Hirchak began his career in 1984 with the past 26 years at Nor-Cal Moving Services, an Allied Van Lines Agent. He has driven more than 2.1 million miles in a commercial motor vehicle in his lifetime while not recording a single accident or moving violation. Hirchak has won numerous industry awards, including Allied Master Mover 1997-2014 and 18-Year Safe Driving Award 2014, and ranks in the Top 5% of Allied Van Lines fleet customer surveys.
Special Commodities: Jim Church of Flemingsburg, Ky. Church began his career in 1973 with the past two years at A. Arnold World Class Relocation. He has driven more than 4.2 million miles in a commercial motor vehicle in his lifetime while not recording a single accident or moving violation. Church has won numerous industry awards, including the A. Arnold President’s Award 2014 and A. Arnold Driver of the Year 2014, and has earned high praise for his professionalism and commitment to customer service excellence.
Rookie of the Year: Aristeo Castillo of Boerman Moving & Storage, Inc. in Woodridge, Ill. Castillo began his career in 2011 at Bekins and has already driven more than 150,000 miles in a commercial motor vehicle. Castillo was named Bekins Driver of the Month in July 2014. He continues to grow professionally and has developed an excellent reputation with customers. Many who have worked with him previously now specifically request him for new jobs.

As a result, they have enhanced our industry’s record, thanks to their strong commitment to safe operations.”
