Richard H. McClure Honored with Moving & Storage Institute Lifetime Achievement Award
McClure Acclaimed for Leadership, Professionalism and Integrity, and Enhancing the Industry's Image

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The Moving & Storage Institute (MSI) has honored Richard H. McClure, former president of UniGroup, with the prestigious MSI Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service. McClure received the highest honor bestowed by the moving and storage industry during AMSA’s 96th Annual Education Conference & Expo in Orlando.
A former member of AMSA’s board of directors, McClure has earned accolades for a legacy of innovations, critical victories for the transportation industry, and programs dedicated to protecting both consumers and reputable moving and storage companies. He developed the concept behind MoveRescue, which has helped thousands of consumers affected by mover fraud. McClure also has demonstrated strong support for the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) by encouraging members of the senior management team to take leadership roles in the organization. He also has been a champion for AMSA’s ProMover program, which helps consumers easily find a certified, professional mover.

He has given of his time and talent to improve the industry’s image and provide support for consumers in need. Rich also leaves a legacy of service for his commitment to helping others in countless charitable activities,” said Scott Michael, AMSA president and CEO.
McClure joined UniGroup in 1994 and was named president in 2002. A Springfield, Mo., native, he previously served as deputy chief of staff for Illinois Gov. Jim Thompson from 1980 to 1984, and as chief of staff for Missouri Gov. John Ashcroft from 1985 to 1992.
“This is undoubtedly the highest honor that we can present to one of our peers. Rich set high marks for quality, innovation and customer service during his career. He is exceptionally well-deserving of this recognition by the industry,” said Katrina Blackwell, MSI Board chair.
The Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service is presented each year by MSI to an individual who has demonstrated leadership, professionalism and integrity and made a significant contribution through technology, operations and/or sales innovation that has led to industry growth and advancement. The MSI Board of Directors, state association executives, past recipients of the award, and AMSA's Board of Directors nominate and vote for the winning candidate. The identity of the winner remains confidential until the award is announced during AMSA’s Annual Education Conference & Expo.
