AMSA’s training and certification staff is composed of moving industry professionals who are fully-qualified experts in their fields. They enjoy sharing their many years of experience through seminars, courses and special programs, and help our members reach their goals by increasing their knowledge and skills through a wide variety of educational opportunities.
, AMSA’s Director of Training and Certification, is responsible for the development, production and delivery of all educational programs the association offers, including the highly-rated Leaders Program, the sales certification program for household as well as commercial and industrial sales consultants, and a range of other in-person and online training. She was responsible for the development and launch of the Certified Packer/Loader program which provides basic level training for packers and helpers, and worked with AMSA’s International and Education Committees to revise the Registered International Mover (RIM) program in 2010.
MaryScott is respected in the moving and storage industry and brings a wealth of working knowledge to her position at AMSA. Before joining the organization, MaryScott was a third-generation mover in a family-owned company in the Washington, DC area. She started as a packer and 11 years later was the executive vice president of the company. She has a BS in Management and Marketing from Radford University. , the “ringleader” at Leadership Outfitters, is the lead trainer for AMSA’s Leaders Program. For nearly 10 years, the association has been working with Jill and her team to deliver interactive training, teambuilding, and leadership skills to emerging leaders enrolled in the program. Jill consistently receives rave reviews from graduates of the Leaders Program, which is offered as a self-study program that culminates with an intensive two-day workshop held in conjunction with AMSA’s Annual Education Conference & Expo.
Formerly Senior Director of Training at the National Association of Home Builders, she worked with national association leaders and their chapters on leadership development, volunteer management, membership, and presentation skills. At Leadership Outfitters she is known for her creative approach to teambuilding and a philosophy of “leadership at all levels”. A frequent presenter at ASAE and the Center for Association Leadership events, she currently serves on the Leadership Council for the Greater Washington Network and the 7 Measures Task Force. A native Washingtonian, Jill is the recipient of the International Leadership Medal from Lions Clubs International and is presently earning a masters degree in theology from the John Leland Seminary in Virginia. , a member of the Leadership Outfitters team, has nearly 20 years of experience working with and for volunteer-based organizations. He specializes in facilitation and training in the areas of leadership, membership development and principled negotiations. He is an experienced facilitator of organizational strategic planning, focus group moderator and certified as a Myers Briggs Typology Indicator® instructor and frequently works with participants in AMSA’s Leaders Program. Prior to joining Leadership Outfitters, Jim was the Vice President of Membership and Chapter Relations for the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP). Prior to NAIOP, Jim worked with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and the Washington Workshops Foundation. As a volunteer, Jim has been active in the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and earned his CAE (Certified Association Executive) designation in 2002. , co-founder of Leadership Outfitters, has more than 20 years experience in leadership development, communications, membership and executive management. He works with AMSA’s Leaders Program participants and brings a practical knowledge of strategy and leadership from his positions with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), and American Subcontractors Association (ASA) where he most recently served as the executive director. He is active in California Society of Association Executives (CalSAE) leadership and is serving his second term as Vice Chair of the CalSAE Board of Directors. Steve is also on the Southern California Council and Membership Committee for CalSAE. In 2006, Steve was recognized as CalSAE's Associate Member of the Year. A native of Kansas, Steve has a B.S. in journalism from Kansas State University and a M.Div. from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. , has a very diversified career path, including working as an auditor for a hotel chain, a retail systems engineer, and a nightclub owner and rock group promoter. After landing a job as a bookkeeper with Golden State Services, which was sold to Suddath Van Lines in 2002, Archer developed an interest in sales and became a household goods salesperson. Over a 12-year period, the company’s retained revenue topped $12 million dollars and is own accounts generated more than $5 million dollars. Joel left a successful career in the moving business to start his own coaching, training, and consulting business. He currently teaches AMSA’s Certified Moving Consultant (CMC) two-day boot camp. , has been with National Forwarding & Affiliates for over 23 years, starting out as a claims adjuster in 1987. He is currently the Vice President of Claims & Customer Service for National Forwarding and Affiliates, as well as Vice President and General Manager of National Claims Services. Kevin's department settles between 5,000 and 6,000 claims per year, including both his own company's claims and those coming to National Claims Services from other companies. He currently serves on the claims committee for the International Association of Movers, and is a past chairman of both that committee and the American Moving & Storage Association's claims committee. Kevin has also assisted AMSA recently by teaching military claims settlement to industry people, as part of AMSA's Regional Training Workshops.
